The Florida State Seminoles began what will be a busy week with a 23-14 victory over the 22nd ranked University of Central Florida Knights. The game was the first of six that the Seminoles will play over the next eight days. Junior attackman Corey Noonan led the way with 6 goals to ensure that the Seminoles began their week with a win. The Seminoles jumped out to a 5-3 first quarter lead on goals from Alex Pettit (1 g), Jon Yates (3g, 1 assist), Matt Jankowski (1g, 2a), and Noonans first two goals. Attackman David Drehoff (4g, 2a) scored twice for the Knights during the game’s first fifteen minutes. A hard-earned ground ball advantage (24 to 11 in the first half) and excellent riding helped the Seminoles build a 12-6 halftime lead. A UCF goal from Geo Jordan (1g, 1a) just fourteen seconds into the third quarter was quickly answered by Seminole goals from Noonan and Yates. The Tribe went on to score six more goals in the third quarter and took a 20-11 lead into the game’s final 15 minutes. Freshman midfielder Joe Gephart (1g) scored his first career goal as a Seminole in the fourth quarter, as the Seminoles closed out a 23-14 win. The Seminoles return to action Monday night against #6 California-Santa Barbara.
