The Florida State Seminoles won their first road game of the year 20-14 over the South Carolina Gamecocks. Two-time All American Corey Noonan (5 goals, 4 assists) and freshman Jon Yates (4 g, 2a) led the Seminole offense to its first 20-goal game of the season. The first quarter saw the teams combine for 7 penalties and 13 goals. The Seminoles moved out to a quick 3-0 lead on goals from Alex Pettit (2g, 1a), Noonan and Yates. Later in quarter, the Gamecocks rallied with five goals in three minutes to tie the game at 6. A goal by Brian Lombard (2g, 1a) gave the Seminoles a 7-6 lead after the first fifteen minutes. The Seminoles played a more complete game in the game’s next 30 minutes, as they outscored the Gamecocks 10-4 in the second and third quarters. Two second quarter goals by Noonan helped the Seminoles build a 13-8 lead heading into halftime, and goals from Pettit, Tony Papagikos (1g), Nick Geppert (2g) gave the Noles a six-goal lead with 5:43 to go in the third quarter. Yates scored the final of his four goals with ten seconds remaining in the third quarter, and the Noles took a 9-goal lead into the game’s final fifteen minutes. "Our offense was really working well today," said Yates, "I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about scoring four, but I know that it only happened because guys like (Robert) Lee, (Brian) Lombard and (Corey) Noonan were creating a ton of chances for me. The big thing was the win today, and I’m just glad I could help us get that." The Seminoles closed out the win with goals from Nick Calabro (1g) and Jordan Supraner (1g), who managed to kick the ball into the net with just over 6 minutes remaining in the game. Corey Noonan’s goal with just over two minutes to go pushed the Seminoles to the 20-goal mark for the first time this season. "This win showed that our team can come together when our opponents pour it on," said Noonan, "there were some nervous moments in the game, but our senior leadership really showed, and we pulled through." The Seminoles look to close out their weekend trip across the Palmetto State with a victory over the Clemson Tigers on Sunday.
